About Me.
Ashley Valsin is a filmmaker passionate about exploring themes of identity, sexuality, and mental health through her work. Originally from North Houston, TX, and now working in Los Angeles, her work is deeply enriched by her diverse experiences and global perspective, cultivated through extensive travel and her service in the Navy.
Ashley has worked on various collaborative efforts. She documented the Black Lives Matter LA-chapter protest in Sacramento, focusing on the urgent issue of police brutality. Her international experience includes producing mini-documentaries on climate adaptation in Belize for the World Bank’s Adaptation Fund and Belize Fisheries Department, where she managed directing, interviewing, and technical roles in complex environments. Ashley’s formal education in filmmaking includes Film, TV, and Media Studies, and a specialized program in Documentary Conservatory from the New York Film Academy (NYFA) in Los Angeles.
Her latest project, "A Greater Whole" (2019), follows the integration of mental health education in New York public schools. Self-funded, Ashley took on directing and sound roles, showcasing versatility and commitment to important social issues.
